Donating plasma is a brief, simple, and risk-free process, and It is the case since all authorized centers and facilities strictly adhere to safety guidelines issued by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The guidelines protect the health of the donors and the safety of the therapies manufactured from their plasma.
However, centers and facilities may also strictly adhere to the International Quality Plasma Program (IQPP): a set of standards issued by the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA) that provide an additional layer of protection and safety.
IQPP certification is an independent, third-party recognition and is regarded very highly, such that all IQPP-certified centers and facilities in the US are highly reputed for their cleanliness, donor health management, and safe, first-rate plasma therapies.
In total, the IQPP is a set of 11 standards, which can be divided into two types: Donor Management and Donor Health Standards, and Center Management Standards. As the names suggest, one defines standards for donors, and the other defines standards for centers. Here they are.
